Nice job by Mike Pelfrey today. The Mets desperately needed this one and Pelfrey delivered. All spring he was telling everyone not to pay attention to results and that he was working on his secondary pitches. We should have listened. i know its only two starts but if were going to get so down on the Mets for their start and if were going to be so hard on John Maine then we must give credit to Mike Pelfrey for his excellent start. Ive said - along with many other people - that so much of this year hinges on
what Pelf, Maine and Ollie do. Well hopefully today was a good indication that Pelf is going to do his part to make sure the Mets have a good season. At the very least hes doing a good job of staying off my
All time Mets bust team. You have to root for Pelfrey. The Mets drafted him and weve kind of seen him grow up. Hes had some ups and some downs and maybe now hes settling in to his role as a nice #2 starter. Of course we need to see continued success for an extended time, but today was a good day. In addition its obvious that Reyes is not comfortable yet. i guess thats what happens when you miss all of spring training and youve played a total of 4 games in 11 months. Also Francouer just continues to hit. Lets enjoy this because so far hes been the Mets best player since last July. Jason Bay had another RBI. Hes a notoriously slow starter so lets give him some time. But he better pick it up soon
if im going to win my bet. All in all, a good day, so lets just enjoy it.
On a different note, tomorrow Oliver Perez goes up against Chris Carpenter.
Stay tuned ......
